Fair Finance Southern Africa launches to improve transparency and accountability at Development Finance Institutions – Nov 2022

Ahead of South Africa’s Budget Speech a coalition of civil society organisations launched Fair Finance Southern Africa seeking to strengthen the commitments of Development Finance Institutions to human rights standards and addressing the climate crisis.

The launch saw coalition members discussing the role of institutions like the Development Bank of Southern Africa, and fair financing through investing in a socially and environmentally responsible manner in South Africa and Africa.

DFIs have traditionally operated without much oversight, whether from parliament or civil society – and so Fair Finance Southern Africa coalition members aim to work together to improve transparency and accountability of these institutions and importantly their financing practices.
